Available this term are classes in Musicianship for Singers and Singing Workshops, arranged by appointment and tailored to your choir, singing group or gathering of friends. Appledown All Age Training Choir provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of choir practise and choral singing for all ages.

Muscianship Classes
 
Our 'Musicianship for Singers' classes include, music reading, sight singing, choral technique, ensemble singing skills, music history and interpretation.

Workshops
 
Our 'Singing Workshops' comprise of individual and ensemble tuition. Topics covered include, practical warm-ups, vocal technique, song interpretation and working with an accompanist.

    A one day workshop for singers wishing to enhance their singing skills, culminating in an informal performance.

    Consideration will be given to various aspects of singing technique, such as:

    Breathing and breath control
    Warming up
    Producing good tone
    Focus and resonance
    Music reading and sight singing
    Musical styles
    Interpretation

    Music will be taken from 'Paint your Wagon' - Lerner & Loewe

    Singers are asked to bring a copy of the vocal score, published by Chappell, this being readily available from County Libraries or to purchase. Singers will be expected to have prepared, as a minimum, their voice part in the following choruses (solo parts will be allocated or sung in unison at the discretion of the tutor):
    8. They Call the Wind Maria - all voices unison or octaves
    21. There's a Coach Comin' In - S & M sing T line; A sing T or Bar
    26. Hand me Down that Can o' Beans - ditto
    43. Wand'rin Star reprise - ditto
    46. Finale - ditto

    Bring a picnic lunch or repair to the Ship Inn (a menu will be available on arrival); all other refreshments are provided.

    Places are strictly limited to 20 singers.

    A one day workshop for singers wishing to enhance their singing skills, culminating in an informal performance.

    Consideration will be given to various aspects of singing technique, such as:

    Music reading and sight singing
    Musical styles
    Interpretation

    Singers should bring two contrasting pieces to work on, one from Rodgers & Hammerstein 'South Pacific' and one from any other 20th/21st Century show. Two additional copies of each song should be provided, one each for the tutor and the accompanist. Singers are encouraged to know their songs from memory as some movement may be incorporated into their sessions. Singers may collaborate on ensemble pieces as the second item if they wish.

    Observers are invited and encouraged to join in with the group sessions during the day. A maximum of 20 observer places are available.

    Bring a picnic lunch or repair to the Ship Inn (a menu will be available on arrival); all other refreshments are provided.

    Places are strictly limited to 10 singers.

    Songs for Summer
     
    Songs For Summer
     
    A Masterclass for a maximum of 10 solo singers, interspersed with group sessions of complementary vocal and physical exercise for soloists and observers.

    Singers should bring two contrasting pieces to work on in the masterclass, one reflecting the theme 'Summer', from the opera, oratorio or song repertoire. All periods and styles are acceptable. Two additional copies of each song should be provided, one each for the tutor and the accompanist. Singers are strongly encouraged to know their songs from memory as some movement may be incorporated into their sessions.

    Observers are invited and encouraged to join in with the group sessions during the day. A maximum of 20 observer places are available.

    Bring a picnic lunch or repair to the Ship Inn (a menu will be available on arrival); all other refreshments are provided.

    A Recital of selected pieces will conclude the day.

    Module E Session 2: The power of music
     
    Based on the syllabus for the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) 'Voice for Life' Scheme, ribbon levels to be worked on will be based on the experience of those taking part in the workshop. There will be opportunities for individual singing, with group directing for those preparing for the yellow ribbon.
    Those who wish to may bring a picnic lunch to follow the workshop.

    All Age Training Choir
     
    The Appledown All Age Training Choir provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of choir practise and choral singing for all ages, both beginners and the more experienced. Choir training will be based on the RSCM 'Voice for Life' award scheme, with participants having the opportunity to work their way through the various levels.

    All participants may join to work towards the Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red and Yellow Ribbons. These awards are gained through continuous assessment and group activities (no external exams) and will be presented at the Winter and Summer Concerts or at the Annual Choristers' Workshop.

    'Voice for Life' is a nationally recognised scheme and a real alternative to taking music exams.
     
    All Age Training Choir Currently meets at 6.00p.m. for 1 hour on alternate Wednesdays.
     
    The Fee per hour is £7, due termly in advance, plus 'Voice for Life' workbooks at cost. Parent and child discount available.
